The Table Mountain

Table Mountain, flat-topped mountain in southwestern South Africa, overlooking Cape Town and Table Bay and dominating the northern end of the high, rocky Cape Peninsula. Its tabular shape results from nearly horizontal layers of sandstone exposed by vigorous wind and water erosion. The distinctive-looking mountain is one of Cape Town’s most recognized landmarks and is a popular tourist attraction that offers hiking, camping, and other activities.

Boulders Penguin Colony

Boulders Penguin Colony, located on Boulders beach, is a nature reserve home to a colony of 3000 African penguins. It is the only place where you can see the penguins closely. The best time is during the breeding season, from March to May. A boardwalk winds around the Boulders beach, giving a clear view of the dunes and the penguins.

The Boulders Beach is also home to many dunes divided by large boulders from where it derives its name. The Boulders Beach is also very popular for its gentle waves (making swimming easy even for kids) and clear rock pools. Parking is available at either end of the reservation on Seaforth Road and Bellevue Road.

Robben Island

Robben Island, often remembered as the place of banishment, is roughly two kilometres away from Cape town. It is this place where the social outcasts were forcefully sent by the rulers during the Apartheid times.

Holding a great significance for every African, this island is well known for the institutional discrimination, brutality and cruelty when Apartheid was prevalent. It is this place where the freedom fighters spent their entire lives in the prison struggling for the freedom of their country. Apart from just being used as a prison, the island was also a training and a defence ground in the World War II. With the deep history, it was decided to establish Robben Island as a great museum, which would also be a tourist landmark. Visitors come here to get educated about the difficult times and how the freedom fighter overcame them all.
